How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying!
book by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock and Willie Gilbert, music & lyrics by Frank Loesser
April 6-8, 1967
Saint Clair Intermediate School Auditorium
"How To Succeed" was the first production of the new St. Clair Theatre Guild in the spring of 1967. The group had been founded and chartered the previous fall. Don Weber and Helen Gonzalez co-directed the debut show, with Don also playing the lead role of J. Pierrepont Finch and Helen supervising (and playing piano) in the pit orchestra.
The Guild had its origins in several performing groups in the St. Clair community during the early 1960s, including the St. Clair Music Study Club and the "Youth For Understanding" International Student Exchange benefit shows. Many of the members of the "How To Succeed" debut cast had been involved with those groups, who put on Broadway variety revues (including selections from "The Music Man," which was still playing on Broadway at the time) and operettas like Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Mikado."
Of special note is the cast listing for one Brian Moss as Peterson: Brian is the only current member of the Guild who was part of its initial production.
